Magical Mistery Tour, 2EP, Parlophone SMMT-1, stereo, December 8,1967. The two EP’s were packeged in laminated gatefold sleeve with 24-page booklet plus four pages containing song lyrics. Inner booklet has pictures taken during filming by John Kelly and cartoon depicting the film’s storyline, which was written by Tonny Barrow and drawn by Bob Gibson. The original booklets have a light blue lyric sheet in their centered spread. The mono sleeves have “SMMT-1” and “STEREO” in white in the upper right corner on the back side. The sleeves and booklets were printed by Garrod & Lofthouse. The records were housed in white center die-cut inner sleeves.
The later sixties books have a lilac lyric sheet in their centered spread. The books printed in the seventies have brighter sleeves and yellow lyric sheets.
1. First pressing, December 8, 1967. Black label with silver logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd” printed at the start perimeter print and the publishing year printed as “(p) 1967” and with “SOLD IN U.K.” Tax code KT. Push-out or solid center. Matrix numbers: Side 1: 7YCE 18435-1 (or -2), Side 2: 7YCE 18434-1 (or -2), Side 3: 7YCE 18436-1, Side 4: 7YCE 18437-1 (or -2).
2. Second pressing, summer 1969 – 1973. Black label with silver logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd” printed at the start perimeter print and the publishing year printed as “(p) 1967”. Push-out center. With or without tax code. Yellow lyric sheet. Possible matrix number variations: -1/-1/-1/-1; -1/-2/-1/-2; -2/-2/-1/-2.
3. Third pressing, 1981 – 1987. In November 1976 was issued the Magical Mystery Tour album therefore a EP was not published in this period. The next edition appeared in 1981 in the EP Collection box set. Black label with silver logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd” printed at the start perimeter print and the publishing year printed as “(p) 1967”. On some copies found double numbering matrix stereo and mono. Push-out or solid center. Yellow lyric sheet. Possible matrix number variations: -3/-2/-1/-3; -3/-3/-2/-3…
4. Fourth pressing, begin of the 90s. The final pressing has black label with silver logo and silver print. The rimtext wording is: “UNAUTHORISED COPYING, HIRING, RENTING, PUBLIC PERFORMANCE AND BROADCASTING” (see bottom label 3). This reissue has a black inner sleeves. Matrix numbers: Side 1: 7YCE 18435-3; Side 2: 7YCE 18434-3; Side 3: 7YCE 18436-2; Side 4: 7YCE 18437-3.
Some records have labels with misprints (see bottom labels 1; 2 and 4) when “THE PARLOPHONE” printed at the start of the perimeter print and there is “SOLD IN U.K.” text.
