Let It Be, Apple PXS 1 & PCS 7096.

Let It Be, Apple PXS 1, Box Set, stereo, May 8, 1970. The components of the Let It Be box set: outer slipcase with exposed inner tray to hold book; album cover and vinyl disc catalog number PCS 7096; standard white paper EMI inner sleeve (patent #1125555 Made In England); “Get Back” book. The same Ethan Russell color photos of faces of John, Paul, George and Ringo appearing on the slipcase, record sleeve and book. The back side of the slipcase is black. Text “Designed by John Kosh. Photographs by Ethan A Russell. Printed and made in Great Britain by Garrod & Lofthouse Limited (Patents Panding)” appear in white on the bottom.

The books were printed by Garrod & Lofthouse before the publishing credits were known. The printing on the credit page to these books starts with “Designed by John Kosh” and ends with “by Apple Publishing.” These books can be found three different ways. One variant has a white sticker with the publishing information applied below the printed information. The book starts with a blank white page. Second variant also has a white sticker with the publishing information applied below the printed information, but the book starts with a blank black page. Third variant has a translucent sheet with the publishing information that overlays the credit page so that the printed information can be read. The book starts with a blank black page. The later books have the publishing information printed on the credit page. There are two variations, starts with a blank white page or starts with a blank black page.

The full laminated cover were printed by Garrod & Lofthouse. The back cover also a black background. The text quoted at the beginning of this chapter, along with the song titles, appears in white above photos of each Beatle. The group’s name, album title and catalog number “Apple Pecords PCS 7096” appear in white on the spine. The first covers have a red Apple logo on the back. These covers were used for the deluxe box package as well as the initial batch of albuma issued without the box and book.

Some copies of the first covers has small white sticker with PXS. 1 in red and “WITH COMPLIMENTS” above catalog number, and with EMI logo below.

Some boxes include advertising poster of the Apple Records.

Later covers have a green Apple logo on the back.

1. First pressing, May 8, 1970. Catalog number PCS 7096. Dark green label with an image of an apple on side 1 and sliced apple on side 2. First label variation have “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines and small “33 1/3”. Publishing year printed with small copyright symbol (p). Full laminated covers have a red Apple logo on the back. Matrix numbers: Side 1: YEX 773-2U; Side 2: YEX 774-2U.

2. Second pressing, November 6, 1970 – early 1971. Dark green label with “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines and small 33 1/3. Publishing year printed with big copyright symbol (P). Full laminated covers have a green Apple logo on the back. The records were housed in standard white paper EMI or Apple Records inner sleeves. Matrix number variations: Side 1: YEX 773-3U; Side 2: YEX 774-2U; Side 1: YEX 773-2U; Side 2: YEX 774-3U or Side 1: YEX 773-3U; Side 2: YEX 774-3U.

Variation A. Wide print as the original.

Variation B. Narrow print.

Variation C. Narrow print and big 33 1/3.

3. Third pressing, 1971 – 1973 (posible until 1976). Light green label with “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines and big 33 1/3. Publishing year printed with big copyright symbol (P). Full laminated covers have a green Apple logo on the back. The records were housed in standard white paper EMI inner sleeves. Matrix numbers: Side 1: YEX 773-3U; Side 2: YEX 774-3U.

4. Fourth pressing, summer 1976 – 1980. Light green-yellow label with “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines and big 33 1/3. Publishing year printed with big copyright symbol (P). Full laminated covers with green Apple logo on the back. The records were housed in standard white paper EMI inner sleeves. Matrix numbers: Side 1: YEX 773-3U (or -4); Side 2: YEX 774-3U (or -4).

5. Fifth pressing, 1981 – 1984. Yellow-green label with “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines. Publishing year printed with big copyright symbol (P). Album have unlaminated sleeve. The records were housed in standard white paper EMI inner sleeves. Matrix numbers: Side 1: YEX 773 -4; Side 2: YEX 774-4.

6. Sixth pressing, 1984-1991. Green-yellow label with “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines. The rimtext reached all the way around the labels. Importantly, around the 5 o’clock position in the rimtext the wording is: “UNAUTHORISED COPYING, HIRING, RENTING, PUBLIC PERFORMANCE AND BROADCASTING”. Album have unlaminated sleeve. The records were housed in standard white paper EMI inner sleeves.

Variation A. Matrix numbers: Side 1: YEX 773-4 (or 5); Side 2: YEX 774-4 (or -5).

Variation B. Later pressing, 1987-1991. Thick print PCS 7096. Matrix numbers: Side 1: YEX 773-5 (or 6); Side 2: YEX 774-5 (or -6).

7. Seventh pressing, 90s. Yellow label with “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines. The rimtext also now doesn’t run all the way around the edge of the label. “ALL RIGHTS OF THE PRODUCER” printed at the start perimeter print. Importantly, around the 6 o’clock position in the rimtext the wording is: “UNAUTHORISED COPYIN, HIRING, RENTING, PUBLIC PERFORMANCE AND BROADCASTING”. Unlaminated sleeve with barcode on the back side. The records were housed in standard white paper inner sleeves. Matrix numbers: Side 1: YEX 773-6-1-1; Side 2: YEX 774-6-1-1.

8. Egthth pressing, Remastered, Apple 94638247210, released November 12, 2012. The album was reissued on 180g vinyl, prepared use the full 24-bit versions taken from the 2009 remasters. Album included in “The Beatles” stereo box, as well as sold separately. Cover is replicat from the original Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Vinyl pressed by Optimal Media GmbH, Germany.
