Released November 21, 1995. Anthology 1 was hailed as the first official bootleg, conteining as it did withing its 55 songs, 33 that had already appeared on bootlegs over the years. But the overall package is far richer that any one bootleg. It includes unreleased version of songs from EMI, Polydor and Decca archives, live material from radio and TV broadcasts and interview snippets that draw an intimate perspective on the material. Particularly inportant tracks include demos by the Quarrymen, some home taping by John, Paul, George and Stuart Sutcliffe, five songs from their Decca audition including two previosly unheard Lennon/McCartney originls, and an early version of “Love Me Do” with Pete Best on drums. There’s also some live material from Sweden that proves John Lennon’s assertion that when it came to straight rock’n’roll, there was nobody around to bean them. In addition, there are lots of studio stops and starts interspersed with snatches of conversation that cast a candid spotlight on The Beatles in their first amazing flush of creativity.

Set includes: tri-fold sleeve (6 panels, 2 spines), three records and three white paper poly-lined inner sleeves. Vinyl pressed by EMI Records, Hayes, Middlesex.
