Released October 18, 1982, two weeks after the re-release of “Love Me Do” (20th Anniversary edition, October 5, 1982). This album contains the A sides of The Beatles’ 17 British No. 1 singles and 3 remaining tracks included are “Day Tripper” and “Eleanor Rigby” (two B sides) together with “Love Me Do”. Originally, this was planned as a double album called The Beatles Greatest Hits and was to have contained the A sides of every one of the 26 Beatles singles issued on Parlophone in Britain. The album got as far as the test-pressing stage and was even given a catalogue number (EMTVS 34), but at the last moment was scrapped in favour of a single album to tie in with the American release. Although both albums use the same title, they have somewhat differing contents; the American album also includes a shorter version og “Hey Jude” not featured on the British album.

The album sleeve manufactured by Garrod & Lofthouse ltd. The sleeve is not as cheap looking as some previously produced and is basically the same for both albums and is also the first Beatles album sleeve ever to feature recording dates, release dates and chart positions achieved.

Inner sleeve:

1. First pressing October 18, 1982. Black label with two white-black EMI logos and silver print. “ALL RIGHTS OF THE PRODUCER” printed at the start perimeter print. Importantly, around the 11 o’clock position in the rimtext the wording is: “UNAUTHORISED PUBLIC PERFORMANCE, BROADCASTING, COPYING AND HIRING”. Instead, added “MANUFACTURED IN THE UK BY EMI RECORDS LIMITED” text at the end of the perimeter print. Matrix numbers: Side One: PCTC 260-A1 (or A2), Side Two: PCTC 260-B1 (or B2).

2. Second pressing, 1984 until 1987. Black label with two white-black EMI logos and silver print. “ALL RIGHTS OF THE PRODUCER” printed at the start perimeter print. Importantly, around the 11 o’clock position in the rimtext the wording is: “UNAUTHORISED COPYIN, HIRING, RENTING, PUBLIC PERFORMANCE AND BROADCASTING”. “MANUFACTURED IN THE UK BY EMI RECORDS LIMITED” text at the end of the perimeter print. Matrix numbers: Side One: PCTC 260-A1 (or A2), Side Two: PCTC 260-B1 (or B2).

3. Third pressing 1988 – early 90s. Black label with silver Parlophone logo and silver print. “ALL RIGHTS OF THE PRODUCER” right to left (reversionary) printed at the start perimeter print. Importantly, around the 12 o’clock position in the rimtext the wording is: “UNAUTHORISED COPYIN, HIRING, RENTING, PUBLIC PERFORMANCE AND BROADCASTING”. “MANUFACTURED IN THE UK BY EMI RECORDS LIMITED” text at the end of the perimeter print. Matrix numbers: Side One: PCTC 260-A3, Side Two: PCTC 260-B3.

Unreleased. The “Beatles Sessions” was a compilation album by The Beatles planned for release by EMI in 1985, but never issued due to objections by the surviving Beatles. The album consisted of thirteen finished, but unreleased, Beatles songs. A single – “Leave My Kitten Alone“, with an alternative version of “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da“, which was not to appear on the album, as its B-side—was also planned, but it too was left unissued.

“Come and Get It” was a demo recording performed by Paul McCartney solo and eventually handed over to and recorded by the group Badfinger. George Harrison would re-record “Not Guilty” on his album George Harrison in 1979. “How Do You Do It?” had been recorded for a possible early single at the request of George Martin, but scrapped in favour of “Please Please Me“. The album also was to include an edit of “Christmas Time (Is Here Again)“, from the group’s 1967 fan club Christmas single.

Versions of all the songs planned for Sessions would eventually see official release as part of “The Beatles Anthology” series in 1995-96, with the exception of “Christmas Time (Is Here Again)“, which was concurrently released on the “Free as a Bird” single. Bootlegs of various versions of the Sessions album made their way to the public in the late 1980s and early 1990s, some from leaks of internal EMI copies.

Fully laminated glossy sleeve may have a factory red print on back side – “Factory Sample Not For Sale” or red sticker with the same words. Record housed in custom EMI plain paper inner sleeve.

There are two versions of absolutely pure blank labels: black and white. Both versions do not have any text. Matrix numbers : Side One: ST-221-A, Side Two: ST-221-B.

Released March 7, 1988. The first record contains the original version of “Love Me Do” with Ringo on drums, together with both the A and B sides of a further four singles “From Me To You”, “She Loves You”, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “I Feel Fine”, together with their respective B sides of “Thank You Girl”, “I’ll Get You”, “This Boy” and “She’s A Woman”. Other tracks on the Record One are “Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand” and “Sie Liebt Dich” originally issued in Germany as single. “Long Tall Sally” and “I Gall Your Name” were originally part of the 1964 American “The Beatles’ Second Album”. These, together with “Slow Down” and “Matchbox”, were later issued in Britain on EP. “Bad Boy” originates from the American album “Beatles VI” and was later to be included on the British album “A Collection Of Beatles Oldies”. Finally are included “Yes It Is” and “I’m Down”, that were the B sides of “Ticket To Ride” and “Help!” respectively and were included on the “Help!” album. The version of “This Boy” is the true stereo version originally available only on singles issued in Australia (Parlophone A8103) and Canada (Capitol 72144), and it makes its first appearance on an album here. “She’s A Woman” again in stereo, originates from the 1967 Australian album “Greatest Hits Volume 2” (Parlophone PCSO 7534). “Yes It Is”, in stereo, was issued in Britain in 1986 as part of the “Only Beatles” cassette (Parlophone SMMC 151). Finally, “I’m Down”, in stereo, originally was issued as part of the Japanese “Help!” EP (Odeon EAS 30006). With the exception of “I’m Down”, these stereo versions have been given their first international release on this album.

The Record Two contains “Paperback Writer” that together with “Rain” was issued as a single in june 1966, “The Inner Light”, the B side to the March 1968 single “Lady Madonna”, “Revolution” that was the upside of The Beatles’ first Apple single “Hey Jude” in August 1968, and, finally,  “You Know My Name” the B side to their final single “Let It Be” in March 1970.”Across The Universe” originally was included on the charity album “No One’s Gonna Change Our World” issued in 1969.

2. Second pressing, 1990s. The gatefold outer sleeve is characterized by the presence of the Apple logo on the back side. Records are housed in white plain paper inner sleeves.

3. Third pressing, early 2000s. The gatefold outer sleeves have the Apple logo on the back side. Records are housed in white plain paper inner sleeves. This edition is characterized by wide grooves which are clearly visible on the labels. Black label with dark silver Parlophone logo and dark silver print. “ALL RIGHTS OF THE PRODUCER” printed at the start perimeter print. Importantly, around the 11 o’clock position in the rimtext the wording is (right to left): “UNAUTHORISED COPYING, HIRING, RENTING, PUBLIC PERFORMANCE AND BROADCASTING”. “MANUFACTURED IN THE UK BY EMI RECORDS” text at the end of the perimeter print. Released December 6, 1994. This the first album to appear on apple label in over two decades, these 56 songs were recorded when The Beatles appeared on BBC Radio, many of them specifically on their own programm Pop Go The Beatles that was broadcast every Tuesday at 5pm through the summer of 1963. Other BBC shows they appeared on, and represented on the double album, include Easy Beat, Side By Side, Top Gear and Saturday Club. The bulk of the material was from the group’s vast repertoire of non-original material that typified their stage act when they played long sits in Hamburg and Liverpool, only a tiny proportion of which saw onto their studio recordings in the 60s.

First pressing December 6, 1994. Unlaminated sepia gatefold outer sleeve with Apple logo on the back side. The cover photo was taken outside the BBC Paris Theatre in London’s Lower Regent Street. The back photograph was actually a paste-in job using the same background but a different shot of the Beatles.

Records are housed in original white and sepia picture inner sleeves.

The labels are characterized by a new design. Now glossy labels have Apple logo on a black background without perimeter print, the copyright text is moved into the middle of the apple. On the early labels, we can see the mistake inscription “See booklet for details”. It can be assumed that originally planned to release an album with a booklet. But the plans have changed in favor of the internal sleeves, which used for posted all details. This error was quickly corrected, and all subsequent editions have the correct label with “See sleeve for details”. We have no information that there was a time gap between the appearance of these two variants of these labels. Most likely they were printed at the same time and the error was corrected in the production process. There are various crossover combinations of these labels included in the kits of the albums.

Variation 1. Early pressing with “See booklet for details”. Matrix numbers: Record 1 – Side 1: PCSP 726 A-01-1-1; Side 2 PCSP 726 B-01-1-1: Record 2 – Side 1: PCSP 726 C-01-1-1; Side 2: PCSP 726D-01-1-1.

Variation 2. Late pressing with “See sleeve for details”. These labels are noticeably more yellow. Matrix numbers: Record 1 – Side 1: PCSP 726 A-01-1-1; Side 2 PCSP 726 B-01-1-1 (or -2): Record 2 – Side 1: PCSP 726 C-01-1-1; Side 2: PCSP 726D-01-1-1.

2. Second pressind, early 2000s. New gatefold outer sleeve is characterized by the appearance of a new copyright text opposite of the Apple logo on the back side – “Beatles”, “Apple” and the Apple logos are trademarks of Apple Corps Ltd”.

Live At The BBC, Apple 00602537589401, remastered version.

Released November 11, 2013. The 3Lp’s remastered reissue features some minor changes in the track listing and editing. Most noticeable are the inclusion of three extra tracks. The only musical addition is the closing version of “From Us To You” at the end of disc two. “What is it, George?” is a new speech track incorporated between “Carol” and “Soldier of Love” on disc one. The speech track “Ringo? Yep!” is a new addition to disc two, replacing “Have a Banana!” as track 3. The majority of “Have a Banana!” has been incorporated as the end of the previous track, “A Hard Day’s Night,” but the phrase itself, which gave the original speech track its title, has been omitted.

The new sleeve is markedly different from the original edition. Now this is the three gatefold black and white sleeve with Apple logo on the back side. The front side has the same photo The Beatles on London’s Lower Regent Street, but the design was further changes.

Records are housed in original black and white picture inner sleeves.

The labels are characterized by a renew design as on The Beatles Anthology. Now glossy labels have Apple logo on a white background without perimeter print,the copyright text is appeared into the right side of the apple.
